Recording progress
Operators record four kinds of event as they work. Each one updates the board for everyone and is stored in Business Central.
| Action | When to use it | What the board shows |
|---|---|---|
| Start | You begin work on an operation | Running |
| Pause | Work stops for a break, changeover, breakdown or shortage | Paused |
| Resume | Work picks up again after a pause | Running |
| Report output / Finish | You report the quantity made, or the operation is complete | Output added; Finished when complete |
Ways to record
- Scanning: where scanners are set up, scan the job to record each event.
- Without a scanner: office or floor staff with Business Central access can use the Start, Pause, Resume and Report output buttons on the production order's routing page.
Good habits
- Record events when they happen, not at the end of the shift. Others plan around what the board shows.
- Always pause before stepping away for a long stop, so supervisors can see the line is idle.
- Report scrap or short quantities honestly; it keeps planning accurate.
